Who can open an account?
An account can be established by an individual, a custodian of a UGMA or UTMA, corporation, or a trustee of a trust. An individual must be at least 18 years of age and a citizen of the United States or resident alien. There are no income or residency requirements. Non-residents are welcome to participate. Please note that participating does not establish residency in Nebraska.

When can I open an account?
Anytime. There is no enrollment period or deadline.

Can I save for more than one child?
Yes. There is no limit on the number of accounts an account owner or a beneficiary may have, however, each account must have only one account owner and one beneficiary.

Can many people save for the same child?
Yes. A child may have several accounts opened on their behalf. Each account must have only one account owner and one beneficiary. Non-owners, including the beneficiary, may make contributions to an account. However, only the account owner is eligible for the Nebraska State income tax deduction, and only the account owner has control over the account.

Can I open a joint account?
No. Each account must have one account owner and one beneficiary only, but there is no limit on the number of accounts a beneficiary may have.

How do I open an account?
You may complete the online enrollment, Enrollment Forms are available on this Web site, or you may request an enrollment kit through the mail. Complete the forms and return them to the State Treasurer's Office or any Union Bank location across the state.
